Description
Trees can be very intimidating and difficult to capture in our landscapes, however, they are one of the
most important elements . Trees give your landscapes character and interest, whether as the main
subject or in a supporting role.
This workshop is all about how to tackle those trees in your painting. We will be starting off with simple
overall outlines, looking for the shape and contour of the trees. You will be doing some small quick
studies of basic tree shapes , followed by discussion of the varying aspects to consider when tackling
trees. These include how to handle the foliage, sky holes, atmospheric perspective, determining the
source of light, and the finishing touches. We will be touching on the character of trees, their individual
gestures and what to look for, in trees both distant and in the foreground , as well as the interaction
between the sky and the trees. Following a demo by the instructor, you will each be painting your own
tree portrait. A study of how to mix those greens will also be included. This course will provide you with
valuable knowledge and insight into what makes trees unique and interesting and how to capture their
spirit in your painting.
