Paper Love: The Art of Creating Unique Papers

Join us on a journey of artistic exploration as we delve into the art of creating a diverse array of unique collage papers. Experiment with various marks and techniques to create papers that will provide a foundation for personalized art projects or simply for the joy of the process.

This workshop will explore the following:

  • Asemic Writing: Develop your visual language, exploring techniques utilizing various tools, papers, and inks.
  • Expressive Mark Making: Discover how each mark contributes to the narrative of your collage papers, from bold strokes to delicate lines.
  • Tissue Staining: Immerse yourself in the art of ink washes and tissue staining, mastering the delicate balance between transparency and vibrancy.
  • Monoprinting: Unlock the magic of monoprinting, where spontaneity meets intention. Experiment with layering colours and textures, creating unique prints and papers.
  • Pattern & Texture: Explore the versatility of stencils, botanicals, found objects and texture tools to add depth and complexity to your papers.
  • Cyanotype: Design and develop beautifully detailed prints by exposing plants, photographic negatives and other personal objects to the sun.

Throughout “Paper Love,” Gloria will guide you in discovering the joy of creating collage papers that reflect your artistic voice. Join us for a week of ‘Paper Love’ and immerse yourself in creating a rich collection of handcrafted, distinct and unique papers.

GLORIA GELO

Gloria Gelo is a contemporary abstract artist, designer, photographer, printmaker, and instructor. Originally from the Midwest, Gloria has always been drawn to the seasonal shift of nature and organic shapes, exploring the space between shape and form. Her artistic philosophy is the fundamental search for balance, a recurring theme in her work. Working in layers, she balances the tension between chaos and organization.

MISSA Course Withdrawal & Refund Policy

All requests for course withdrawals and/or accommodation cancellations must be made through MISSA’s online form. Requests made in person or by phone, text or email will not be accepted.

Refunds and credits are subject to the course withdrawal and accommodation cancellation deadlines and fees outlined below. Please note, no refunds will be processed during the MISSA Summer Arts Program.

Course Withdrawal Deadlines

Forms received on or before May 3, 2024 – Pre-paid tuition and material fees will be refunded. A $50 administrative fee applies for each course withdrawal. Material fees will be refunded in full.

Forms received on or before June 14, 2024 – A credit will be issued for pre-paid tuition, less a $50 administration fee per course withdrawal. Pre-paid material fees are not eligible for refund.

Forms received after June 14, 2024 – Course withdrawals made after this date are not eligible for refund or credit of tuition and material fees.

Tuition credits are issued in the form of a code to be used for registration in future MISSA workshops and/or for on-campus accommodations. Credit codes may be transferred to another person. MISSA credit codes have no cash value and cannot be refunded.

If MISSA must cancel a workshop, students will be offered an alternative workshop. If the 2024 program is completely cancelled (due to COVID restrictions or any other force majeure), a full refund will be given (tuition, material fee and accommodation) or a MISSA credit will be offered.

Accommodation Cancellation Deadlines
On-campus accommodations may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the first day of MISSA and pre-paid accommodation fees will be refunded, less a $50 deposit fee. Accommodation cancellations made after the deadline are not eligible for refund.

Exceptions

If you must withdraw from a course and/or cancel your accommodations due to exceptional circumstances, you may request a refund on the basis of hardship and/or compassionate grounds. All requests must be made in writing using the online form. Approval of such requests may only be made by the MISSA Board of Directors and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
