Imaginative Nature Drawing

Imaginative Nature Drawing

Nature is the perfect starting point for creating imaginative artworks that combine fact with fiction. During this weekend workshop you will be guided through a series of interesting drawing projects designed to activate your imagination. Drawing projects will include using watercolour, ink and graphite on paper.

Enjoy drawing without the pressure of making a “perfect” representation. For example, a segment of this workshop is inspired by the fascinating illustrations by Ernst Haeckel, a German zoologist/artist (1834-1919). During this project you will learn about composition and placement as you create a whimsical pseudoscientific drawing.

While primarily studio based, this workshop will also incorporate plein air sketching and outside exploration—taking advantage of the extensive gardens and wild spaces found on the beautiful grounds of Shawnigan Lake School.

Unlike some other forms of art, drawing is portable, uses simple materials and has immediate results. Drawing is for everyone. If you haven’t already fallen in love with drawing, you will during this workshop.
