This is a 2-day workshop. All classes run 9 – 4 pm each day with lunch included from 12 – 1 pm.
In this two day glaze landscapes workshop we will use the seaside campus of Brentwood College School
and area as inspiration to paint tile landscapes, embracing the exciting world of glaze melt + glaze layering.
We will aim, through application, to illustrate the light of a shallow-green sea or the dark of a storm-brewing
sky. Bridget Fairbank will draw on her experience as tower observer, weather collector + visual artist to
teach methods of environmental interpretation and extrapolation for artistic purposes + include a brief
history of landscape illustration in the ceramic arts.
This workshop is a fun way to become more confident in glaze application techniques + seeks to empower
you to make your own glazes and understand glaze-based colour theory with mid-range electric firing. You
will walk away mixing base glazes like paint, gain confidence through testing + look at your environment in
a new way.
Price: $500
This price includes: tuition, daily lunch, material fees (if required), any applicable taxes and is listed in Canadian Dollars.
Bridget Fairbank is a relentless maker. Her ceramics connects utilitarian pottery, installation, performance and painting: asking a viewer to engage bodily in an idea. Her art pieces work to implicate and empower a viewer through sensory enjoyment often including taste, touch and smell. These qualities are exemplified in her recent MFA exhibition Foodscapes: From Seed to Mouth, at the University of Florida.
