Morgan Saddington
Morgan Saddington is a part time jewellery designer living in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Working primarily in sterling silver, she has developed a love of making chains by practicing traditional silver-smithing and chain maille techniques. Morgan has been honing her jewellery making skills over a 20 year period. After completing an Associate Degree in Visual Arts, her journey into jewellery making began with beadwork and assemblage. Over the years she has expanded on these techniques by taking numerous silver-smithing , chain making, metalsmithing, and etching courses. Combined with her own research and experimentation she has developed a style that is uniquely her own.
Morgan strives to make each piece completely handmade, using the least amount of pre-fabricated findings. She coils silver wire on mandrels and hand cuts each coil into individual links for her chainmaille pieces. Her larger chains are hand cut, soldered and altered in shape and texture. Her earrings and pendant often include layers of silver sheet with piercing, texture and riveting. She hand fabricates silver beads as accents or incorporates them into the clasps for some of the chains. Morgan often finishes pieces with a patina to give contrast against the bright silver. She takes pride in creating well designed, fabricated and finished pieces.
