A Rhythmic Use of Clay

A Rhythmic Use of Clay

This is a 2-day workshop.  Classes run 9-4pm with lunch included.

Inspire a sense of painterly expression in clay.  Learn a subtle variation in colour transition and tonal gradients.  Placing distinct shapes create a three dimensional composition, which harmoniously emphasizes a symmetrical or asymmetrical visual balance.

Use your interest of the environment to inspire your design and envision these compositions. The rhythm of nature provides the movement and balance needed to construct the pieces.

Learning this exciting method,  combining painterly expression and technical foundation, pushes the edge of both traditions to another level. It goes beyond tradition to an exciting rhythmic creation to “sing up the earth”.

BARBARA HIRANO

Barbara has been an artists all her life.  She has worked in the fields of Ceramics, Painting and Sculpture, using the mediums of clay, glass, and paint.

Following high school, Barbara entered SFU, with aim of studying general Arts.  However, during this exploration, she found she was particularly drawn towards Archaeology and Anthropology.  Within these studies, she was exposed to the genius of Prehistoric Artists. These artists employed various coloured art oxides to paint their visions on the cave walls of cultural sites and the ceramic artists who created pottery and sculpture for both ritual and practical use. These pottery Shards, are still used today to clarify the age and development of cultural sites.
