‘On Assignment’ is a 2-day photographic workshop designed to challenge photographers using any type of digital camera (SLR, mirrorless, point & shoot, iPhone, etc.) This course will appeal to beginners starting to explore the elements of composition, using their camera as a creative tool, and to intermediate photographers who want to see if they can perform under deadline pressure. Students will be sent on a unique series of image gathering missions, shooting for a variety of different publications. Each assignment will present a specific photographic challenge, ie. instructions for playing with essential elements of the composition. Each assignment will lead to more creative challenges. As instructor, I will play the role of the publication’s photo editor, giving each photographer clearly defined goals that are open for visual interpretation. Editing and constructive critiques will take place in a group setting. There will be ample room for creativity here, with no fixed right or wrong … but one thing is certain: you’ve got to come back with the goods when you are ‘on assignment’.
