Content to Cover: Coptic Bound Book

Envision taking a deep-dive into image transfer techniques, processes and materials. Further imagine creating your own handbound books to house all those notes, samples and experiments in!

This course, combining collage and image transfer with bookbinding basics, will have participants learning best practices needed to make artist’s books and traditional book structures. Come prepared to experiment, have fun and discover new ways of working with mixed media while developing your own art vocabulary and favorite stitching style.

Working with acrylic paint, mixed media and image transfer on both paper and textiles, participants are going to be combining various found materials and ephemera that speak to personal themes. These samples are going to be bound into a Coptic book (approximately 5¾” x 7 ¾” depending upon the initial size of papers chosen). Coptic bound books lay flat when open and are ideal for sketchbooks and art journals.

In addition to the Coptic-binding stitch, participants will learn the basic methods and processes used to make other book structures including a Pamphlet and Accordion book.

From Content to Cover, this course is designed for all levels of experience, from beginners (I’ve never folded a sheet of paper before) to intermediate artists (and have the apron to prove it!)
