My work draws on inspiration from the natural world, architectural forms and letterforms. I’m drawn to land and seascapes with a compelling atmosphere - black rock outcroppings edging a frothy white sea, deeply textured oak tree bark, silver light dancing on an indigo sea, the rich, vibrant colours of a late evening hillside town in Mexico.
I paint with a sense of discovery and remembrance about a place - in layers over and under shapes, graphic lines, textures and colours. At first, it calls on intuition through mark making and laying down colour and textures until the idea presents itself.
I work primarily in acrylic and ink enhanced by multi media. I make tools from foraged botanical materials and home made inks to create one-of-a-kind marks. Early work includes mono prints and hand lettered pieces. Currently, my paintings explore ideas of connection - to place, to a memory, to an idea. I’m a member of the Victoria Print Society and Victoria Arts Council and former member of Zebra Art Collective, Ground Zero Printmakers, a participant in the Mentorship Program at arc.hive artist run centre in Victoria, B.C. I’m a board member of the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA).
I have exhibited work in Victoria B.C. and in New York. I live on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, British Columbia on the edge of the Salish Sea.
