MARYLOU WAKEFIELD - Instructor at MISSA 2020

MaryLou Wakefield is a contemporary abstract artist working in a number of media, primarily painting and print making. Her work draws inspiration from wild landscapes with influences from architectural forms and contemporary design. MaryLou’s love of abstract expressionism, bold marks and rich colour combine with the intrigue of expressing something intangible.

MaryLou grew up in North Vancouver where she spent endless hours wandering freely in wild landscapes. She worked as a professional writer/editor for more than 30 years, dedicated to the craft of ‘show don’t tell’. The unique visual language she creates in her abstract paintings tells a similar story.

MaryLou lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and works from a small studio in her garden. Her paintings and prints have been exhibited in Victoria, B.C. and in New York. Her work is held in collections around the world.
