Katy was born in Fernie and raised in Elkford; she was only sixteen when she left home to pursue an education in the arts at Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, B.C. Since then, she has travelled the world learning about and making ceramics, obtaining her BFA from Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary, Alberta, and her MFA from Utah State University in Logan, Utah.
She has spent time making and exhibiting work in Denmark, China, Korea, and around the USA; however, the mountains of Canada called her home. Currently she maintains a full time studio practice making and selling functional ceramics and teaching pottery workshops, and spends all her spare time hiking and foraging in the mountains.
