I am a multimedia artist living in beautiful NW Montana. I “paint” with wool using a barbed needle to felt small bits of wool and silk into a solid (felt) backing. This medium is simultaneously painterly and sculptural. It is perfect for capturing the beauty and importance of the animals living in this region. My goal is to remind viewers of the responsibility we share to protect and conserve nature and wildlife.
My work can be seen at Eric Thorsen's Gallery in Bigfork, 4 Raven's Gallery in Missoula, at the Best of the West Show in Great Falls this coming March, and at several regional shows. I am represented by Steve and Nancy Cawdrey in Whitefish. Previously, I've shown my work at the Out West Art Show in Great Falls, at Jackson Hole through the Art Association, and at additional venues. My painting, Reunited, is featured in the Artists for Conservation's 2024 book and virtual show. Tell Me All About It, a painting of an orangutan received an award through the Hockaday Museum (First Place People’s Choice Award Members' Salon). I am an Associate Member of Artists for Conservation.
Art is a second career for me. I spent much of my professional life teaching sociology at various universities in the US and abroad. I also worked in animal welfare, serving as a director for an animal sanctuary. I, my husband, horses, dogs, and cats all moved to Montana in 2010. Inspired by the beauty of this area, I found myself consumed by the desire to create art. It has been a wonderful journey involving experimentation, learning, and connection with other artists.
